Currently, a volunteer, medical research assistant in robotic prostatectomy at MedStar Washington Hospital Center's Urology Department in Washington, DC and in Spine Pain Management at Spine Institute of North America in Brunswick, NJ. I have also completed a colorectal and neuro-surgery internship at Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore, Maryland between 14th November 2017 and 20th January 2018 with Drs. Bashar Safar, Chetan Bettegowda, and Ali Bydon. Additionally, I have volunteered as an intern in the Emergency Room and Cardiothoracic Surgery Departments at the DC Veterans Affairs Medical Center between May 2014 and October 2017.
Applying to medical school programs with an ultimate goal of offering treatment to people in pain from neurological manifestations and who have no insurance. Secondly, my goal is to become a physician-scientist to collaborate with other clinicians and scientists to discover treatments for challenging brain disorders that have not been understood up to date. As an overview, in the lab, collaborating with a team of surgical urology residents, I have two primary roles: First, I focus on somatic mutations in the cancer genome with the intent to compare their roles in tumor formation and progression between African American versus Caucasian males with prostate tumors. Second, I compare the accuracy of the Decipher genomic profiling using DNA information to the standard normal grams for prostate cancer risk stratification, like CAPRA. Thirdly, I compare the surgical outcomes for two procedures that affect facet neurotomy, endoscopic verus needle radiofrequency rhizotomy, with the intent to identify and explain which procedure is more efficient and why that is the case. I hope that my efforts will extend to patients in pain from different walks of like, including impoverished nations, like Africa.

Oncology isn’t just my future career and research; it is a personal struggle to help improve the treatment of patients with tumors. This disease has threatened the lives of many of my friends and family and affected the lives of the patients with whom I deal every day. Just a handful of their photos are listed here. I am committed to improving the care of patients with tumors and understanding the underlying mechanisms of disease progression, motivated by a personal understanding of the disease. My vision is to work at the Sidney Kimmel Cancer Center, employing the maximal treatment for patients in the clinic today. I also envision working in a lab that looks to develop new treatments and diagnostic techniques for the future patients who will be at the clinic tomorrow.
Ramy's mother was diagnosed with late-stage colon that kept metastasizing and recurring for four years, throughout his college career.
Hanaa, Ramy's aunt, suffered from breast cancer and received chemotherapy and radiation during his freshman year in college.
